Another Sharp Plum is behind us — and this one brought quite a few firsts!

A Tournament Inside A Festival
Held as part of the White Eagles Medieval Festival at Belgrade Fortress, Sharp Plum is a little different from your typical HEMA tournament. Instead of competing in a sports hall in front of fellow fighters, friends and family, our fighters step into the arena surrounded by a medieval festival, with thousands of festival visitors passing by, stopping to watch, cheer and discover HEMA along the way.
And when the swords are put away, the tournament doesn’t really end. Fighters stay at the festival, meet people from other clubs, explore the grounds and, inevitably, end up making friends. That atmosphere and sense of community are a big part of what we want Sharp Plum to be.
Four Categories
This year we competed in four categories: Open Longsword Mixed, Open Women’s Longsword, Open Dual Wielding Mixed and Mounted HEMA.
Dual Wielding was our experimental category for 2026 — and it turned out to be an absolute hit. Two weapons, plenty of chaos and some fantastic fights made it a favourite with both competitors and the audience.
Mounted HEMA
But our biggest milestone was the first Mounted HEMA tournament. Bringing historical fencing into the saddle in an official competitive format was a major step for us, and seeing it successfully become part of the tournament was one of the highlights of the weekend. We intend to continue developing the format and make Mounted HEMA a regular part of Sharp Plum.

Most importantly, we are proud of the atmosphere we created: serious competition without losing the fun, friendship and shared love of historical martial arts that brought us all here in the first place.

More Than Competition
Our tournaments are more than sporting events.
They create opportunities for athletes to compete, for visitors to discover historical martial arts, for families to experience living history, and for sponsors and partners to become part of events that continue to grow every year.
Together with the White Eagles Serbia, these tournaments represent one of the largest annual celebrations of Historical European Martial Arts and historical equestrian culture in Serbia, connecting sport, education, culture, and community in a way that few events can.
