Tournaments
Competition has always been at the heart of martial arts. It challenges skill, rewards dedication, and brings communities together.
Where Competition Meets History
Warlander proudly organizes tournaments that combine serious sporting competition with the atmosphere of historical festivals. Athletes, spectators, reenactors, craftsmen, and families all become part of the same experience, creating events that celebrate both martial excellence and Europe’s rich historical heritage.
Together with the White Eagles Serbia, we continue to develop tournaments that welcome competitors from Serbia and abroad while introducing new audiences to Historical European Martial Arts.
Knights & Legends Tournament
Held each May as part of the Knights & Legends Festival, this tournament has become one of the highlights of the festival’s martial arts program.
Surrounded by medieval camps, historical demonstrations, traditional crafts, and festival activities, competitors fence before an audience that extends far beyond the HEMA community. The tournament offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience Historical European Martial Arts in a vibrant historical setting.
The competitive program currently includes:
- Open Longsword
- Open Mixed Steel (One-Handed)
- Women’s Longsword
As an officially rated tournament, Knights & Legends attracts experienced competitors while remaining welcoming to newcomers taking their first steps onto the tournament floor.
By combining sport with history, the tournament creates an experience that is equally exciting for athletes, spectators, sponsors, and media.
Sharp Plum Tournament
Every September, the Sharp Plum Tournament forms the HEMA heart of the White Eagles Festival.
Designed to celebrate innovation while respecting historical tradition, the tournament continues to expand its competitive program and attract participants from across the region.
The tournament currently features:
- Open Longsword
- Open Dual Wield
- Women’s Longsword
- Mounted HEMA Tournament
The mounted competition represents an exciting milestone, bringing together horseback riding and Historical European Martial Arts in a format that is still exceptionally rare. As one of the first tournaments of its kind in the region, it reflects White Eagles and Warlander’s commitment to developing mounted martial arts as a modern competitive discipline rooted in historical tradition.
Like Knights & Legends, Sharp Plum is an officially rated event, combining high-level competition with the unique atmosphere of a historical festival where visitors can experience tournaments, performances, workshops, traditional crafts, and living history throughout the day.
More Than Competition
Our tournaments are more than sporting events.
They create opportunities for athletes to compete, for visitors to discover historical martial arts, for families to experience living history, and for sponsors and partners to become part of events that continue to grow every year.
Together with the White Eagles Serbia, these tournaments represent one of the largest annual celebrations of Historical European Martial Arts and historical equestrian culture in Serbia, connecting sport, education, culture, and community in a way that few events can.
Horseback Archery Tournament
Taking place each September at the Hipodrom Beograd, the Warlander Horseback Archery Tournament brings together riders who combine horsemanship with traditional archery in one of history’s most iconic martial disciplines.
Competitors navigate the course at speed while engaging targets using the traditional thumb draw, testing precision, timing, and harmony between horse and rider. The tournament showcases a sport that remains rare in the region while introducing spectators to the excitement and elegance of mounted archery.
Designed for both experienced competitors and curious visitors, the event combines sporting excellence with educational demonstrations, making it accessible even to those seeing horseback archery for the very first time.
As the tournament grows, our goal is to establish it as an annual meeting point for horseback archers from Serbia and abroad, contributing to the development of traditional mounted archery in the region.
